Vitals:
Ø  Temperature: (for 5mins)

central (carotid, femoral, brachial)
Rate: Bradycardia(sleep, hypothyroid, hypothermia, heart block, increased ICP),             Tachycardia(Dehydration, shock, fever, exercise, anxiety, anemia, hyperthyroid,             tachyrhythmias, PSVT)
Rhythm
Character
Volume (in central pulse): increased (water hammer in AR), decreased(shock)
Peripheral pulses are palpable?
Delay: radio radial and radio femoral delay
Condition of arterial wall

Ø  BP: (For systolic hypotension… neonate<60, 1 yr<70, 1 to 10 yrs 70-90, above 10 yrs<90)
…../……mmHg in ……arm on…..position with/out postural drop
Ø  Breathing rate(for 1 min): Rate, rhythm and breathing pattern
o    (2 months: <=60, 1 year: <50, 1-5yrs:<40, 5-10 yrs:25-30, adult:<16)
Increased(pneumonia, anemia, metabolic acidosis)/ Decreased (sleep, increased ICP, sedatives)
Ø  O2 saturation

Follow the syllabus Medicine is an ocean. You cannot study everything. It’s a fact. You have to be jack of all. Don’t leave any topic even if its not high yield for exams. Make a schedule categorizing all the topics and the day you will study them. It will help you as at the end of the day you will know whether you finished for the day or not. Today I will discuss about how to study Medicine and how I studied it during my final year MBBS. First of all, lets talk about the books, notes, apps and other resources. We all know there are two main books, i.e. davidsons and harrisons. Harrisons is a huge book which needs alot more time and patience while davidson is a concise yet complete book. Davidson is a one stop book I must say. I used davidson as main textbook. Trust me its enough, at least for exams. I am telling you this also because the questions asked these days are approach based so you need to be jack of all topics and master few very very important topics.
